What We Are Investigating?
Our firm is launching a comprehensive investigation into Nav Raman – Chatterbox Media over allegations that it has been suppressing critical reviews and unfavorable Google search results by fraudulently misusing DMCA takedown notices. These actions, if proven, could constitute serious legal violations—including impersonation, fraud, and perjury.
We conducted comprehensive analyses of fraudulent copyright takedown requests, meritless legal complaints, and other unlawful efforts to suppress public access to critical information. Our reporting sheds light on the prevalence and modus operandi of a structured censorship network, often funded and used by criminal enterprises, oligarchs and criminal entities seeking to manipulate public perception and bypass AML checks conducted by financial organisations.
The fake DMCA notices in this investigation appears to have been strategically deployed to remove negative content from Google search results illegally. Based on this pattern, we have reasonable grounds to infer that Nav Raman – Chatterbox Media - or an entity acting at its behest - is directly or indirectly complicit in this cyber crime.
In most such cases, such ops are executed by rogue, fly-by-night 'Online Reputation Management' agencies acting on behalf of their clients. If evidence establishes that the subject knowingly benefited from or facilitated this scam, it may be deemed an 'accomplice' or an 'accessory' to the crime.
What are they trying to censor
There are significant allegations and adverse reports against Nav Raman and Chatterbox Media that have raised red flags and harmed their reputation. These allegations primarily revolve around workplace bullying, mistreatment of freelancers, and unethical business practices. Below is a summary of the key issues and their implications:
Allegations and Adverse News
- Workplace Bullying and Toxic Culture
A Deadline report from July 2022 highlights allegations of bullying and a toxic work environment at Chatterbox Media. Former employees accused Nav Raman, the founder, of fostering a culture of fear and intimidation. The report details instances of verbal abuse, unreasonable demands, and a lack of support for staff well-being. These allegations were brought to light during the production of the BBC series Meet the Khans, where freelancers and staff reportedly faced mistreatment. - Exploitation of Freelancers
A TV Watercooler article further elaborates on Chatterbox Media’s treatment of freelancers. Freelancers alleged non-payment or delayed payment for services, lack of contracts, and poor communication. Some claimed they were pressured into working excessive hours without proper compensation or respect for their professional boundaries. These practices have led to widespread criticism within the industry, damaging Chatterbox Media’s reputation as a fair and ethical employer. - Reputational Damage
The combination of these allegations has significantly tarnished Chatterbox Media’s reputation. The company, which prides itself on producing high-profile content for major networks like the BBC, now faces scrutiny over its internal practices. The negative publicity has the potential to deter talented professionals from working with the company and could strain relationships with broadcasters and partners who prioritize ethical standards.
Why Chatterbox Media Might Want This Information Removed
The allegations of bullying and exploitation are deeply damaging to Chatterbox Media’s brand. In the competitive media industry, reputation is critical for securing contracts, attracting talent, and maintaining partnerships. If these stories remain public, they could lead to:
- Loss of trust from broadcasters and clients.
- Difficulty in recruiting skilled professionals.
- Legal repercussions if former employees or freelancers pursue claims.
Given the high stakes, there might be a temptation to suppress or remove this information. While most companies would address such issues through transparency and reform, the extreme step of committing cybercrime—such as hacking or pressuring platforms to take down content—would be illegal and unethical. However, the desire to control the narrative and protect the company’s image could drive such actions, especially if the allegations are perceived as existential threats to the business.
Conclusion
The allegations against Nav Raman and Chatterbox Media paint a troubling picture of workplace culture and business practices. While the company has not been formally charged with any crimes, the reputational harm from these reports is significant. Any attempt to remove this information through illicit means would only compound the damage, highlighting the importance of addressing such issues through accountability and reform rather than suppression. Investigative journalism plays a crucial role in holding companies accountable, and these reports underscore the need for ethical practices in the media industry.

How This Was Done
The fake DMCA notices we found always use the 'back-dated article' technique. With this technique, the wrongful notice sender (or copier) creates a copy of a 'true original' article and back-dates it, creating a 'fake original' article (a copy of the true original) that, at first glance, appears to have been published before the true original
What Happens Next?
Based on the feedback, information, and requests received from all relevant parties, our team will formally notify the affected party of the alleged infringement. Following a thorough review, we will submit a counter-notice to reinstate any link that has been removed by Google, in accordance with applicable legal provisions. Additionally, we will communicate with Google’s Legal Team to ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
